Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT)

Service Overview

Surface Inspection for Detecting Fine Discontinuities

Liquid Penetrant Testing is a surface examination method used to detect surface-breaking discontinuities in non-porous materials. A penetrant is applied to the prepared surface and, after the required process steps, indications become visible
for evaluation.

Typical Applications

Welded Joints

Inspection of weld surfaces for cracks, porosity and other surface-breaking discontinuities.

Piping & Components

Examination of non-porous piping, fittings and components for surfacebreaking discontinuities.

Machined & Fabricated Parts

Inspection of machined and fabricated surfaces where fine discontinuities may not be readily visible.

Inspection Objectives

Detect Surface Defects

Reveal cracks and other discontinuities that are open to the inspected surface

Improve Defect Visibility

Make fine surface indications clearly visible for inspection and evaluation.

Verify Surface Integrity

Assess inspected surfaces for relevant discontinuities affecting component quality and integrity.
